What was your first purchase?

Post  adama1843 on Fri Apr 16, 2010 6:00 pm

So what was the first Propworx item you won? What started you on the road to addiction? Were you new to collecting, like me, or had you collected before?

For me, it was "Cylon Debris - Toys."

Lot #207: Battlestar Galactica Cylon Debris - Toys

I quite raged later because almost every single other Pegassus book ended up seeling at 1/10th to 1/2 of what I payed.

Technically for me it was the Tyrol Civilian costume from New Caprica that sold in the first live auction. The description was wrong (it ended up being from an Episode that hadn't aired yet-last 10) so I ended up getting another costume with the money Propworx gave me back. So then I got the Lucy Cain outfit-clean and bloody hero versions...after that I got addicted.

I had already collected Battlestar Galactica memorabilia before the auctions, so now I collect both TOS 1978, and the RDM BSG.-Chris

I feel your pain. I did the same thing.

My second win was the same thing.

It was a screen-used viper nameplate. the second one they made -since they made one for both sides of the viper- went for less than hald of what I pated for mine.
I believe some of the main character nameplates went for what I payed for my rather unknown character.

Also; my first win was soured more when UPS's 3rd, final delivery attempt, in which someone was actually home, came along with their suprise brokerage "because we feel like it" fee of over $80

My first buy was this:
http://archive.propworx.com/1004/722

It was MEANT to be this:
http://archive.propworx.com/1004/721

They listed right beside each other. Being up at 3 or 4am trying to bid live left me befuddled and I went for the wrong one. I swore after that I was finding out how this sniping software stuff worked. All bids were thus decided on in the cold light of day after that. Smile (Though I still took the odd "live" pot at items going low.)

I console myself that I didn't pay hugely over the odds, but am still gutted I missed the hero one at that price. Smile

My first win from the first auction:

I was hooked from then on, through the ebay weekly auctions, the second live auction, and airlock auctions.

God, you guys got some nice stuff right out the door. I picked up one of the groundbreaking leaflets...

http://archive.propworx.com/1002/1133

I remember how freaked out I was about paying $79 for that "piece of paper." When I took it out of the envelope that all changed, and I was hooked. I remember at the end I wasn't questions dropping a couple hundred on something, just that the bank wasn't going to let that happen. To paraphrase Zapp Branningan, "The spirit is willing, but the *bank* is bruised and spongy." Razz

My first item was Boomer's Warrant for Extradition (signed on screen by Roslin):

http://archive.propworx.com/1002/855

I remember telling my husband that I'd finally gotten my little piece of the show -- turned out to be totally fooling myself that I wanted to end there, lol.

A single one of these sold for over $500 in the last auctions, so I was happy to get mine when I did Smile.

My first buys were these...

Didi Cassidy's briefcase + docs
http://archive.propworx.com/1003/559

and Tory's Quorum nameplate plus law books
http://archive.propworx.com/1003/833

I had bid on a few law books in the ebay auctions that occurred before the 2nd live auction but I never won anything.

I kept thinking of you and all your law stuff when we were watching Crossroads Part II the other night. Heh....I kept trying to see if Baltar was scribbling, thinking about how he did a bunch of Hangman games.

I didn't get Baltar's notes, but that scene is so much better now that we know what Callis was doing over there on set.

http://archive.propworx.com/1006/324

Besides that, the best thing for me about Crossroads Pt 2 is that I liberally borrow (with modifications) one of Lamkin's lines when talking to clients about witness testimony -- the line where he says to Baltar, after Gaeta commits perjury, "If he's decided to perjur himself there's nothing we can do about that now".
